Saxonian Fortified Church Viscri

Viscri or Weisskirch (German) is a small village in Transylvania with about 400 inhabitants.  Its famous highly fortified church, originally built by the Szeklers around 1100 AD, can be seen from far away.  Later, Saxon colonist rebuilt the eastern part of the church and in 1525, the first fortifications with towers were added. In the 18th century the church was surrounded by a second defense wall.
